Cecilia Thompson
Growing up between Sussex and London, I have spent many years visiting National Trust properties and other country houses like Sissinghurst, and museums such as the V&A and the Design Museum, cementing the idea that I would love to join the world of interiors as a career path.
I completed my undergraduate degree in History of Art at the University of Nottingham, graduating with honours with my dissertation exploring the history of architecture and architectural photography of post-war residential architecture in Los Angeles. My time at university instilled a strong work ethic, focus on the importance of time management and appreciation for the arts and the creative sector. Once I had completed my degree, I decided to take some time off and explore other cultures. I moved to Venice, Italy for three months where I enrolled in an Italian language course, finishing with a B1 Intermediate level. Learning about other languages and cultures has always fascinated me and is important so I can connect and understand others on deeper levels. Visiting all the galleries and museums in Venice, most of which are situated in traditional palazzos, instilled my love for interiors and confirmed to me I wanted to pursue Interior Design.
The diploma has not only given me the skills I need in terms of software such as AutoCAD, Sketchup and Adobe Suite, but has also taught me what it is like to work in a team in the professional world.
