The work in my portfolio celebrates the contrast of textures and forms and showcases plant diversity and seasonality. I’ve embraced interesting new materials with a focus on sustainability. Many of my designs have been inspired by pioneering art and architecture, drawing on my own in depth research. My portfolio shows a well rounded understanding of the design process, from client brief to construction. The range of projects included demonstrates not only the continued development of my style over the past year, but the versatility of my design and rendering styles.
My love of gardens developed at Newcastle city farm where I started as a volunteer and worked to become Head Gardener over five years. Here I saw first hand the impact of sensory interaction with nature on young people, adults with learning disabilities and the wider inner-city community. I continue to incorporate therapeutic elements in my design and love to see how gardens inspire people. I honed my plant and design knowledge working as a maintenance gardener for Landform for three years whilst studying for my RHS Level 2.
I’m keen now to learn from experienced designers and further develop the skills I’ve learnt while at KLC in a studio. My strong technical ability, excellent plant knowledge and collaborative nature will equip me well for future work. I am an avid reader and like to keep up to date with the latest developments in design, focussing on the more sustainable and climate adaptive gardens. In my free time I enjoy ceramics, live music and long country walks that end with a Sunday roast.
